Reference and citation practice
Please use the following reference when quoting from the English edition of Edvard Munch’s Writings:
Edvard Munch’s Writings. The English edition, published by the Munch Museum. https://www.emunch.no/english.xhtml (date when the website was visited)
When quoting from the digital archive in general, please use the following reference:
Edvard Munch’s Writings. Digital archive, published by the Munch Museum. https://www.emunch.no/ (date when the website was visited)
When referring to a quotation from the texts in the archive, the following resource reference form should be used:
“Inventory number, institution, date. Object category + the recipient’s name if applicable (date when the website was visited)”
As in the following examples
MM N 737, Munch Museum. Dated 08.01.1889. Letter to Karen Bjølstad (2012-08-29)
MM T 2734, Munch Museum. Dated 1909–1911. Sketchbook (2012-08-29)
Reference to a page or folio should use the facsimile’s file name without the file extension (e.g. No-MM_N0737-01) as it gives a unique identification of the page/folio. This can be found by either pointing to the facsimile (and writing the file name that appears), or by clicking on the right tab and then choosing “save image” (the file name will then appear and can be copied). The page numbers used to leaf through a manuscript are created automatically and should therefore not be used as reference.
